Students, faculty, staff, and community members seeking a relatively inexpensive
international experience in Spring, 2008, are encouraged to consider participating
in the Splendid China Study Tour. During each of the 2000- 2004 and 2006 Spring
breaks, and in May, 2005, the Gannon International Business (IB) Program has sponsored a Splendid China Study Tour. The tours were arranged and led by Gary Mahan, Director, Gannon International Business Program. Beijing was visited in each of the previous tours.
The Beijing itinerary included the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Mao Mausoleum, Summer Palace, Temple
of Heaven, Lama Temple, Beijing Opera, Acrobatic Show, Silk Alley, Giant Panda, and visits to several businesses and schools. The Spring, 2002, tour also included Shanghai and Suzhou. The itinerary for
the May, 2005, tour, which was 11-13 days in duration, also included
Hong Kong, Guilin (an area of spectacular limestone formations), and Xian (home of the famous terra cotta warriors). A three credit China Studies course was offered in conjunction with each of the last
five tours.
The next Splendid China Study Tour is
to be to Beijing and is to take place May 11 - 18, 2008. A tour to Beijing would be similar to the
Spring, 2006 tour. For a description of the Sp06 tour click on the link immediately
below. The China Studies course, which may be used to as an MBA or undergraduate elective course, is also to
be offered in Spring, 2008. Additional information on the tour, including an
itinerary when it becomes available, will be provided on this site. Those interested
and who wish to be placed on the mailing list for additional information as it becomes available are encouraged to contact the
tour leader by clicking on the "Contact tour leader" link above.
Only links
to photos of the Sp01 tour are currently available. Some of the information below was provided in conjunction with previous
tours and may not as yet be updated for the Sp08 tour.
